It takes no great insight to see that we are living in a time of rapid change. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the world of work. Roughly 85% of people who work for money work for someone else; they are employees. However, psychologists estimate that perhaps as many as four out of five (80%) employees are actively dissatisfied with their jobs. So what can we do to ensure we follow our passion, take charge of our lives, demonstrate effectiveness and purpose in the world, achieve happiness,and find fulfillment?
You will know you are following your passion when: you are doing things that you choose to and not have to do, when you are doing things and you don’t notice time passing by, when you are doing things that keep you up late and wake up early with enthusiasm, and when each day emotionally feels like a holiday. That’s how you know!
So before you go out and buy Dad that next Father’s Day gift, do some research about what he is passionate about by asking him these 6 simple questions:
- What do you have passion in or would like to focus on, enjoy and become best at?
- What would you do if nobody paid you for it?
- What are the things you talk about, research and read about?
- What sections of the book store do you find yourself in?
- What subjects could you just envelop yourself in all day long until you feel like your eyeballs will fall out?
- In a perfect world what would you like to do all day when you are at work or in your business?
Once you do this assessment with Dad, you will be sure to get some insight on what great gifts you can buy to help him follow his passion. But the greatest gift of all will be that you got him thinking about his true passion. This just may be the spark that ignites Dad to take action and start designing the life he loves!
It’s the passion for what we do that will give us drive, commitment and energy to create the life we love and have an extraordinary time while doing it.
