Are You Choosing To Be Happy
So is happiness an emotional response that is dictated by external events like having lots of money and nice things or is it a choice? Can choosing to be happy really be an option?
In this week’s edition of Wake up Wednesdays I choose to talk about choosing to be happy. It wasn’t that long ago when I believed that happiness was something external from myself and that life had to present a number of conditions in order for me to be happy.
Thankfully I’ve come to realize that like so many things in life , happiness too is a choice.
Here are some methods which I intentionally use to get myself to a happiness mindset:
- Whistle or sing a happy song.
- Have a set of affirmations which I recite to myself out load …. I am Happy, I am Joy, I am Peace etc…
- Call a good friend who won’t allow me to feel sorry for myself.
- Listen to some inspirational audio, I personally like Wayne Dyer and lately I’ve been listening to alot of Brendan Buchard. He does some really great YouTube videos.
- Listen to an upbeat song. How about Be happy by Pharrell.
- Take a 10 minute walk outside and intentionally try and clear my mind by noticing the different types of trees, animals or flowers that I walk by.
Hopefully some of these suggestions will work for you as well but be patient, you need to work your happiness muscle one big smile at a time.
