Does Your Plan For Success Take 130 Hours?
Hi Friends it’s George Tsougrianis from Zaggtime Lifestyle Design. Time for another nugget of wisdom in this week’s Wake up Wednesday. We’ve all heard the catch phrases about success taking alot of hard work and determination but what about the planning involved to get there? What’s your plan for success? Better still how much time are you devoting to it?
As I mention in my video blog there is a disturbing trend in the amount of wasted time at work on non- work related activities . According to salary.com 89 % of people surveyed said they wasted some time at work. A shocking 78% said they waste between 30 minutes and 2 hours a day at work on non-related work activities. Imagine what you could do if you applied even 30 minutes to planning your day out. In a single year you would have invested 130 hours to achieving your goals.
Ask any successful person and they’ll tell you that clearly identifying what you want to achieve and then developing a plan around is a critical step in making your dreams come true. Many of us are good at this when it comes to managing a project but suck at it when it comes to applying it to our life.
That was me , I was great at identifying the to do list in a project and then marching to it completion but until I spent the time and did the work on myself I just couldn’t do the same in my life.
One of the things that made a difference in my life was that I started planning out my day.
I did this because I recognized that I was wasting time checking in at all hours of the day and that in doing so was giving other people the power in my day.
So to take back my day I did 2 things;
- Planned out the tasks that I wanted to accomplish for the day.
- Scheduled specific times in my day for my check in with emails and social media.
The effect it had sort of surprised me , sure I started to accomplish more of my goals but it was how that made me feel that was the surprise.
Have you ever gone home from a hard day and said ” I was so busy putting out fires that I never got anything done.”
Unless you’re a fire fighter this should never be a phrase you say and yet this was totally me. And when I did start to plan and schedule my day it all changed . I felt more engaged and happy because I was getting done the work that was important to do me.
A critical tool to help me with the planning out of my priorities was a productivity planner.
A while ago I started using Brendon Burchard’s Productivity Planner (click here if you want a free copy). It’s old school because you need to write it all down but I find that writing still helps me focus. This simple daily ritual has been one of the most power things I’ve done in moving my life forward.
There are many of these types of planners out there, the point is success doesn’t just come to you. It’s something you need to spend time on… and if you do, could make the difference in what you can accomplish.
