The Little Hamlet That Could – A Great Story of Serving Others
In this Give For Good story we profile a dozen committed group of ladies that have worked tirelessly for the hamlet of Hodgeville. For the past 8 years these ladies have created a unique Christmas experience for people to enjoy.
As you can see from the picture below this is a wonderful display of Christmas scenes many of which involve true works of art. These pieces range from traditional nativity scenes to more eclectic pieces like the smore’s snowmen figurines.
Organizer Anne Barkmen says it all started initially just as a way of showcasing some of the local collections but soon outgrew the humble church it was housed in. This year the event displayed over 700 scenes with several thousand figurines. Over the years the event has attracted thousands of visitors from across the Southwest region of Saskatchewan and into other parts of the province.
For these ladies , it’s not about making any money , because the event is free. It’s not about the fame because they all are very humble about their success.
So what motivates them?
Serving Others
The satisfaction in knowing that they are touching lives in a positive way and putting joy into people’s hearts. And that’s something we could all do a little more of.
Do you have any stories of people doing positive things that add value to people’s lives, if so drop us an email.
With gratitude,
