Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable… Your Growth Demands It
Hi friends its Doug Howorko here Co-Founder of ZAGGTIME-Freedom Lifestyle Design. And it’s another edition of our WAKE UP Wednesday Video Blog “Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable…Your Growth Demands it”. The purpose of our video blog is to help Wake Up the entrepreneurial potential that lies within you and help you start to design the business and life you love. Just as myself and my Co-Founding partner George Tsougrianis are doing with our lives. We are pushing outside of our comfort zone every day and results are showing.
In today’s blog I wanted to discuss the reasons why so many people often desire a better life but are not willing to Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable. Why, because it takes guts and alot of determination especially if you want to own a business. We will quickly delve into the reasons behind this along with a solution and support system to help you when you are ready!
The fact is most people live the life they think they have to live. They are unfulfilled, overworked, stressed and stuck in a system that exploits them instead of helping them achieve their highest potential. They get the education they think they need to get the job society says they should want. Unfortunately, most lack the life skills required to be self-made and self-reliant in a business of their own.
The research behind why people want to start a business but never do
Researchers say that 7 in 10 people hate their jobs. Even if given a raise they still wouldn’t be happy. Lack of passion, recognition and rewards is the number one reason people are unhappy at work.
- Only 13% of employees are engaged in their jobs, or emotionally invested in their world and focused on helping their organizations improve.
- A staggering 63% are “not engaged” or unmotivated.
- While the remaining 24% are “actively disengaged” or truly unhappy and unproductive.
Some 53% of North American adults have seriously considered starting their own business, according to new research by 1&1 Internet, Inc. The data from over 1,300 people surveyed shows that in recent years many have weighed their options for increasing their household income.
- There appears to be a slight variation by gender – 59% of men versus 43% of women.
- Some 20% of those surveyed have considered starting a side project in tandem to their existing job, in order to boost family income.
- Other primary motivations included the opportunity to be their own boss (24%), a better work/life balance or family life (19%), and passion for a hobby (21%).
- Perhaps unsurprisingly, the desire to start an enterprise does decrease with age. Those aged 35-44 years are most driven towards launching a business (67%).
My story: how I pulled my head out of the sand, embraced change and started to grow.
There is an old saying that if you want to have something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done and you have to become someone you have never been.
In 2008, I made the decision to look for a new way of making an income that would allow me to live life on my terms; a way of life that would give me the freedom to have more fun and enjoy life at a whole different level. You see, even though I was 41 years old at the time, with a great job and a bright future, something just wasn’t right. Something was missing; I was empty inside. I lacked inspiration and the zest for life I once felt. I had begun to raise my standards and expectation for the amazing life I wanted to live. I was becoming unleashed and was not going to tolerate mediocrity anymore.
As a result, I was waking up each day less and less inspired to do the work I needed to do and really started dreading going to work each day. In fact just saying that now, brings back memories of how most Sunday evenings I would feel a knot in my stomach, just knowing that I was about to start another week of the same old thing, repeating the same old daily grind!
All I did was work, work, and work. Sure I was pretty darn good at my job but that’s all it was. I was building someone else’s dream, not my own and every hour on the job, every ounce of effort applied, seemed a waste. I couldn’t help but think…what if I was building my own dream instead of someone else’s? I know this is going to sound like a cliché, but I finally decided I had enough. I was fed up with the rat race and I wanted more!
I had no idea what exactly I was actually looking for but what I did know is that I wanted to find a business opportunity that would give me:
- Leverage (Unlimited income potential).
- The ability to work from home as well as anywhere I choose in the world.
- Passion for adventure, freedom, and flexibility.
- No more endless meetings, conference calls, and impossible deadlines.
- Satisfaction and fulfillment that I already knew could only come from doing something for myself.
My ultimate quest in life is to have the ability to do what I want, when I want, where I want, with whom I want and as much as I want! But I had to embrace change if I wanted to have more. And that meant I had to get my head out of the sand and start to recognize the skills I was lacking and the skills I needed to develop if was to truly design the business and life I love!
The fact is…being a truly successful entrepreneur takes time and the talent that comes with learning new skills and gaining experience with action. If it were easy, everyone would be the new Richard Branson! So to get started I began to develop new business skills in the digital economy, skills that would add value and be transferrable in whatever I did as an employee or business owner. Some of these skills included:
Advertising formats | Done for you systems | Search Engine Optimization |
Affiliate marketing | E-Commerce | Social Media Best Practices |
Auto-responders | Lead Capture Pages | Outsourcing |
Blogging best practices | List Building and Email Marketing | Website development |
Although I continue to work at my job full time, I am well on the way to becoming a freedom lifestyle entrepreneur with the business and life I love.
So to recap here’s what I’ve learned about Growing Forward ;
- Don’t continue to keep your head in the sand expecting that life will get better. It won’t!
- If you want change be your own agent of change.
- Decide what will truly make you happy. If you don’t know that ‘s okay but start asking the question.
- Start learning more about the digital economy regardless of your current skills there’s always more to know. Learning how to market yourself effectively is perhaps the single biggest skill required in today’s connected world. It’s also the doorway to greater opportunities that can transform your life.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s edition of Wake Up Wednesdays .

Are confused and overwhelmed about learning more about online marketing?
I know I was . I was barely online.
My Facebook profile only had a few friends which I hardly ever used and I didn’t really understand what Twitter was let alone use it properly.
One of the best decisions I made was to join SIx Figure Mentors (SFM ). They cut through the hype and confusion with step by step training and mentoring that helped me accelerate my learning and understanding of the Digital Economy. I continue to use it today as my not so secret weapon.
On top of all the hours of training that’s available to you 24 hours a day /7 days a week, SFM is currently offering a 30 day (no obligation) trial so you can see for yourself.
