Unplug From Technology

Why I Sometimes Need To Unplug From Technology

Table of Contents

So I lead a very plugged in life , on computers and smart phones virtually all day and I’m thankful for that because without these tools I’d never been able to become a digital filmmaker or start my media business. But like everything else sometimes too much of a good thing , well… can be too much! When this happens I need to unplug from technology and go old school.

We all lead busy lives today, in fact, that’s consistently the main thing I hear when I ask the question ” How are you doing?” usually it’s followed with a sigh then a pause and then the answer  “busy.”  I’ve been told on more than one occasion that being busy is the “new normal.” However accurate that statement maybe I find there’s a kind of frenzied panic that comes with it.

One of the reasons I believe this is happening is that we never take the proper time off and allow our minds to recharge. Most of us live a 24/7 connected existence that never shuts off. For me some of my most cherished times are when I turn the phone off and go outside and explore the great outdoors. The only thing better is when I find myself in a place that has limited cell service ( hard to believe I know) like last weekend when my partner Doug and I visited Grasslands National Park, one of the most exotic and wild places on earth.

I still struggle with this concept of scheduling in downtime and creating a scenario that allows me to unplug from technology and yes turning off my phone. As I mentioned in my videoblog I’ve find it to actually improve my performance and even help me solve problems that had me stuck. As I’ve begun to understand this more and more it’s almost become like a beacon, representing an aspect of a lifestyle that I’ve started to create for myself. The Freedom Lifestyle… which for me is doing what I’m passionate about ; where I want, when I want, with whom I want and doing it for as little or as much as I want.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my blog post and my video blog. I’d love to hear your comments, connect with us on Facebook or follow me on Instagram.

With gratitude,
